"The thing that I rely on the most is probably the CTi Knee Brace. I use that every day when I go skiing. I’ve only been using it the last couple of months but I can notice a massive difference and I’m glad I’m wearing one now."
Living only fifteen minutes away from the dry sky slope in Sheffield, on which many of Britain’s young skiers took their first runs, Katie took up skiing at the age of six. Unfortunately the Sheffield Ski Village is no longer there, however Katie continues the legacy of the Sheffield institution which launched the career of many of the UK’s top talent. Talent like Ellie Koyander, Paddy Graham, James “Woodsy” Woods and now Katie Summerhayes.
International competition began in Switzerland in 2011 where a then fourteen year old Katie took 2nd place.
In 2012 with only two years until the Winter Olympics in Sochi Russia, Katie tore her ACL which meant nine months away from skiing to recover. Then with less than nine months until the games, the injury re-accorded which put some doubt on her fitness and ability to compete. Rehab lasted until a mere two weeks before the games when Katie was announced as fit to compete in the British team, finishing seventh overall and proving wrong many of those who said she would not be able to make it.
2013 – 2nd place at Kaprun in the Austrian FreeSki Open Slopestyle competition. Slopestyle 2nd Place at the FIS World Cup in Silvaplana in Switzerland.
2014 – 7th place in the Winter Olympics for Slopestyle in Sochi. FIS Junior World Champion in the Ski Slopestyle competition and 2nd place in the FIS freestyle Ski World Cup – Slopestyle in G’staad in Switzerland.
2015 – Freestyle World: Silver. FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships.
While Katie’s favourite resort is Breckenridge in Colorado her home slope is Snozone in Castleford.
