WHAT IS THE FORMFIT OA THUMB NIGHT?

The Formfit Thumb OA Night works by providing immobilisation of the thumb joint for those suffering from Carpometacarpal (CMC) Osteoarthritis (OA) or Thumb OA.

The brace works by keeping the thumb in its anatomical position. The brace also works to offer adjustment of the first thumb / index finger gap in a pain free position.

WHEN SHOULD IT BE USED?

The night version of the Formfit Thumb OA offers pain relief and immobilisation of the thumb joint following diagnosis of Carpometacarpal (CMC) Osteoarthritis (OA) or Thumb OA. Regardless of which area of the body the condition hits osteoarthritis remains a degenerative condition which can affect any joint in the body, with Thumb OA being one of the most common forms of the condition.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The thumb-wrist-orthosis is used to manage Carpometacarpal (CMC) Osteoarthritis (OA) by providing immobilisation in anatomical position of the trapeziometacarpal joint (basically the joint at the base of the thumb which is responsible for movement of the thumb). The brace also provides for adjustment of the first thumb/index finger gap in a pain free position. Any degradation of cartilage leading to bone on bone contact can be painful, especially on joints we use everyday such as the knee or thumb.

The brace is intended to be worn at night. Simply place the wrist/thumb into the brace and fasten the straps until they feel tight enough and the thumb is immobilised in the brace.

It is this immobilisation at night which can reduce pain levels, offering a more comfortable nights sleep.
