WHAT IS THE FORMFIT TENNIS ELBOW SUPPORT?

The Formfit Tennis Elbow Support is designed to primarily designed to manage tennis elbow (or lateral epicondylitis as it’s known clinically), tendonitis and other elbow related conditions.

WHEN SHOULD IT BE USED?

Tennis elbow is characterised by pain centred on the outside of the elbow joint but despite the name suggesting otherwise it is not just limited to tennis, but any repetitive task. Sufferers will normally experience pain around the bony point of the inside of the elbow, though this pain can travel further down the arm, with inflammation of the tendons resulting in the range of motion being compromised.

The condition itself is largely self-limiting though in extreme cases surgery may be required to repair the tendons. Timescales for a full recovery can be up to 2 years, which can impact on your activities and why many of those diagnosed opt to wear a tennis elbow brace when active.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

An elbow support for tennis elbow works by applying targeted compression to the affected area, in this case the lateral epicondyle (outside of the elbow), which can be adjusted accordingly depending on the level of pressure required i.e. increased during an activity and decreased during rest. This compression works to manage inflammation and offers a degree of pain relief, allowing you to remain active for longer.

The slim line nature of the brace also means it can be concealed easily and comfortably under clothing.

Where compression is required over a larger area, rather than simply a specific point, then an elbow compression sleeve should be worn to provide an equal amount of compression from the top of the forearm to the mid-point of the bicep.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS IS THE RIGHT ONE FOR ME?

Diagnosis is essential as a tennis elbow brace applies compression to one specific region, the lateral epicondyle. For other conditions the application of compression to one specific area could have a detrimental effect.

Once you have been diagnosed you should ensure that you select the correct size by measuring the circumference of your arm, just below the elbow joint. Whilst the product can be adjusted you should always start with the correct size to minimise the risk of it slipping (if it’s too big) or being too compressive (if it’s too small).
